Frequently Asked Questions

  • We allow everything from the Pathfinder 2nd Edition Core Rulebook, and everything the Pathfinder 2nd Edition Advanced Player’s Guide except for the Versatile Heritages and the Rare Backgrounds. (these may become available via special in-game events in the future)
In addition, there are several additional options for character creation available in the Relicborne Saga Campaign Guide, including 2 unique Ancestries, and enough new Backgrounds so that you could start the game with any skill feat you want from either book.

Our resources for character creation can be found here.

**Note: With Paizo’s upcoming release of the new-and-improved rules for Pathfinder 2nd Edition later this year, RBS will be updating the list of materials that will be accessible in our games.

  • Our agreement with Paizo is such that our game world is completely separate from theirs in every way. You will not see any instances of PFS characters, locations, or events in our game, and vice-versa.
You cannot bring one character to another game world, nor can you trade items or gold, or anything else like that.
RBS and PFS are two completely different entities that just happen to use the same rulebooks.

  • The Relicborne Saga, unlike some other games, is an inherently cooperative and welcoming environment. Our game is built to encourage everyone to have a good time together.

Although ‘alignments’ no longer exist in the Pathfinder 2 Remaster rules, characters that behave with cruelty, malice, or unfettered chaos will inevitably sour the game. These kinds of “evil” or “chaotically disruptive” characters selfishly hog the story to themselves, ruining the other characters’ involvement by just being problematic until they get their (bratty) way.

Those sorts of characters do not fit into the Relicborne Saga.
    Here, we play heroes!
    (or at least respectable scoundrels)

If you have an idea for a character concept but you’re not sure if it would be a good fit, feel free to contact us and ask.
We acknowledge that good players can make disparate character concepts work, and we want as many people as possible to enjoy our games together, so we’re glad to field any questions you have in order to build the character, and gaming experience, that you want!

  • Just like in many other game worlds, you may have noticed that adventure modules have a level range applied to them. This is, of course, to ensure that the characters playing them are an appropriate skill level compared to the story’s challenges.

And although games in RBS tend to have more of a roleplaying focus than a combat focus, the skill challenges involved still have a difficulty attached to them.

So the level restrictions are there to avoid having games with characters that can just trivialize the challenges, or players getting disheartened as their characters are hopelessly outclassed, since neither of those scenarios is much fun. By that same token, low-level characters in high-level games would be at unfair risk, and high-level characters in low-level games would be pointless and bored.

Also, we like to have NPCs that make sense, and nobody is going to hire characters for a job that’s too easy (waste of money) or too hard (likely to fail).

So if you want to play with your low-level friend, you’ll need to have a matching low-level character.

  • Absolutely! We’ll be glad to find a seat anyone who wants to play with us!
Of course, for convention events they’ll have to pay with Generic tickets like any other event that they didn’t buy an official ticket for.
But we won’t turn away anyone who wants to experience our game.

  • Well, that’s certainly unfortunate, and you should try to find them before you play again.

Those documents are how we keep track of what each character has done, what rewards and penalties they’ve gotten, and how much you as a player have done with us.

But we need you to have them in order to maintain the progression of the game. And while we would not turn you away from playing with us, we would have to insist that you start a new character, with a blank log sheet, in order to play in that game.

If you’d like to contact us directly about something like recovering a character, or fixing a mistake in your log sheets, please use the contact links to let us know and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.

  • You certainly can!

Running a Relicborne Saga module will net the character of your choice some exclusive in-game rewards, as repayment for being the one to put in the effort to make the game happen!

If you’d like to participate in running Relicborne events at conventions, which can get you nifty real-life rewards like a free badge, go ahead and contact us to let us know!

If you are looking to run some RBS games for your friends at home, just get in touch with us and we’ll set you up with the adventures and the log sheet instructions so that you and your players can get credit for the games you play!

  • Absolutely!

If you’d like to become one of our authors, just let us know, and we’ll work with you to help you bring your adventure to life in the RBS world. We have some story guidelines, and a writing guide, that we prefer to follow, so that Relicborne games can maintain a cohesive feel and presentation.

And there’s also some big in-game rewards for authors, to say Thank You for your hard work in making our game world that much bigger!
